Emanuel Steward

The jab is the most important punch in boxing.

World champions trained

The Kronk gym — Hearns, Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko.

The story

Out of the Kronk gym's sweltering basement in Detroit, Emanuel Steward built a dynasty. His fighters wore gold and threw a jab you could hear from the back row.

From Tommy Hearns to Lennox Lewis to Wladimir Klitschko, Steward took raw talent and gave it a spine — the jab — then taught it to finish with surgical, fight-ending power.

The philosophy

What Steward believed.

01

Everything is built on the jab.

02

Offense first — clean technique, real power.

03

When you hurt them, finish; don't admire.

04

Power is sharpened technique, not wild swinging.

For your journey

What you should steal.

01

Weaponize the jab

Snap it, double it, vary it. It's your range-finder and your scorer.

02

Finish on instinct

Drill the follow-up so that when an opponent's hurt, the ending is automatic.

Fall in love with your jab. It's the punch that wins rounds, sets up everything, and keeps you safe.

Turn wisdom into reps

Train it. Don't just read it.
